What to include in a construction or renovation brief

Five details that make the first discussion more useful for both the client and the project team.

1. The work: describe whether this is a new build, finishing, renovation, maintenance or supervision request. 2. The place: share the city, site location and any access considerations. 3. The scope: note the spaces involved, approximate size and any drawings, specifications or photos you can share. 4. Timing: explain when you hope to start and whether there are important deadlines. 5. Priorities: tell us what matters most, such as a particular finish, operational requirement or budget range you are comfortable sharing. A brief does not need to be perfect. These details simply help us ask better questions and discuss a suitable next step.
